Her name is Rio and she dances on the sand…..

Why hello there….it has been a while…but here we are again celebrating at the next level….what we do best!

We were thrilled when a dear friend wanted to have a Yacht Rock themed 40th. It is so much when everyone involved runs (or in this case sails away!) with the theme. The most fun was building the photo booth. A photo booth is such a fun addition to any party and can be super simple or as elaborate as you want it to be. For this project we knew we needed something big, how can you have a yacht rock party and not have a yacht??!! We thought it would be cool to have all the pieces separate so that it gave the photo dimension and wasn’t just a backdrop, we wanted it to be an interactive piece for the guests. We had Redbeard construct the waves and boat out of plywood and the birthday girl’s hubby made the sale out of drop cloth and dowels. Throw on some paint and spray on some stenciling and voila a photo booth! Didn’t the boys do a great job?

Here are some of our fave photos.

Happy Birthday Classy Nautical-style…

Ahoy Matey!

G&S decided to celebrate Sugar’s birthday in Nautical style! Here are some photos from the birthday that we styled with simple classy nautical pieces.  We had a dessert table complete with an anchor cake from the local Buttery Bakery, lifesaver shortbread cookies, sailboat shortbread cookies and chocolate dipped Driscoll’s Strawberries all lit up by a custom-made rope light. The Nautical wood bar was created by Sugar’s father-in-law complete with vintage lifesaver pillow from an actual Nautical store in downtown Santa Cruz. And of course no party is complete without champagne and Chandon was nice enough to make a special Nautical themed champagne bottle for us.

Ginger & Sugar believe that birthdays are the best days! Today’s featured party was for our dear friend’s little baby girl who just turned 1. Not only is Ercilia super creative but her mom is a baking genius and made all of the colorful, beautiful, delicious treats. Check out the dessert table and try not to drool. It was so much fun styling this special celebration because all the elements were FUN! The Enjoy Event Co. Workshop in SF

IMG_0003

2 day workshop at the Makeshift Society in Hayes Valley in SF

Getting a business started can be overwhelming and daunting – and then you get inspired by creative people and that other people, yes just like you, have done it and done it well! G&S feel privileged that we were able to participate in the Enjoy Events Co. Workshop in San Francisco.

G&S love inspiration, meeting new people, seeing creative design, working with smart business people, connecting with savvy businesswoman, learning, being open to new things, being taught by geniuses in the social media and event industry! We love direction and connection!

G&S have major respect and gratitude for Megan & Emily from Enjoy Events Co. for sharing their knowledge, tips, and tricks on the wedding/event industry. It’s cool to build a community of planners, designers, stylists, etc who all learn from one another and make the industry stronger.

Highlights from the workshop for G&S:
  • Awesome Swag – we were each given a fancy toolbox filled with treats, writing goodies & cards from Anna Rifle & Hello Lucky, and fun swag.
  • Being schooled on Social Media – SM genius Anne Sage shared her social media genius and she is just a rockstar. Inspiring and hilarious.
  • Photographer’s personal take on Weddings/events – Edyta – Fabulous, well known photographer with loads of information on styled shoots and the importance of showing quality work. She also introduced us to Tomfoolery SF – super fun Photo Booth company.
  • Insider scoop from a Vendor’s view – One True Love Vintage Rental businesswoman Amanda – broke down the difference between designers, stylists, and planners. Gave more info on styled shoots and how to work well with vendors of all kinds. We are all in this together! Also, super hilarious.
  • Checked out a mock-up table setting  – DIY design guru Myka from Modern Sequins shared an inspiration board and mock setting of fabulous DIY and budget friendly advice. LOVED her style! Bell jars, sprayed bottles as vases, the quartz gemstone drink toppers, and the concrete vases/planters. so much LOVE for this style!

Rustic Wedding Luncheon by G&S

IMG_4701

Ginger & Sugar were lucky to plan and style a special Wedding Luncheon.  The Bride wanted a simple, rustic luncheon with a gourmet sandwich bar for her dearest friends and family after the morning wedding ceremony.  G & S used burlap and lace to make placemats complete with name tags tucked into lace napkins. The centerpieces were made with old wood pieces from a salvage yard accented with glass bottles and burned wood pieces with the Bride and Groom’s initials.  We hung framed lace and a barrel ring-shaped heart in the trees to give the luncheon a homey feel. It was delightful….check out the Wedding Luncheon by Ginger and Sugar …
